Mill Valley Mandatory Soft Story Retrofit

Mill Valley mandates seismic retrofitting for wood-frame buildings with three or more rental units built before 1978. The ordinance targets structures with soft-story vulnerabilities, such as open ground floors used for parking. Building owners must complete screenings by December 15, 2024, with retrofit deadlines varying based on the building's compliance tier.

San Jose Mandatory Soft Story Retrofit

San Jose requires seismic retrofitting for wood-frame buildings with three or more residential units built before 1990. The ordinance targets structures with soft-story vulnerabilities, such as open ground floors used for parking. Building owners must complete screenings by October 1, 2026, and retrofits by April 2030-2032, depending on classification.

NBC BAY AREA INTERVIEW
